I do agree its nice to have the benifit up as quick as poss though so you dont loss interest
I wish it was fast on broadband!

Broadband penetration was about 55% in this country around October last year. Would you design a website to automatically exclude 45% of your market..!?!

It's the words that sell, not graphics and animation. Strip out the fancy excesses and I guarantee conversion rates would increase.

According to UK Government statistics for Jan-April 2006:-
57% of households in Great Britain had internet access.
Of those 69% have broadband.

So it is better, just a third of the market excluded. Or maybe 'only' a quarter now by now..!

Give me a Flash free site and I'll have that quarter of the market in my downline thanks very much :-)

There are still huge areas with no Broadband at all and a lot of areas that are classed as having broadband still only have max 1/2 meg capacity, the VWD site does load pretty slowly on 1/2 meg

Your broadband speed is seldom the limiting factor here - it's the contention that sets the limits on the service. Highly contended isps such as Tiscali will have problems in loading the site in a reasonable time.

I have a half meg connection at home and the VWD site loads at almost the same time as the 6meg connection here at HQ (or quicker if the graphics guy is downloading one of his huge files). I'm not on Tiscali or BT or AOL or ...

But as I've said elsewhere though, my broadband access is very fast anywhere else, it's just browsing the VWD site that feels like wading through treacle. So not DSL contention. There is a LOT of data to download, on a modem it physically cannot be anything other than unbearably, impractically, give-up-and-go-elsewhere SLOW. Last time I looked there was over 400k of Flash just on the home page - on a 56k modem that's 5k a second at best... 80 seconds just for one page anyone..?

Apart from removing or simplifying the pointless Flash animation, here's some more advanced techniques the techies can apply:-
Optimizing Page Load Time - die.net

Oh, and techies bear in mind the Join Now page is the slowest of all -- because it is a secure page none of the content will get cached by the web browser so everything has to download all over again. Clearly it's vital the join page loads quickly, so this page absolutely needs to minimise file sizes, i.e. there is no point having any Flash content on this page.
