UK Lotto email SCAM ??

Hi

Just received this in my inbox today. Quite professional looking in HTML format with photo of Helen Parker.

No doubt it's a scam as I know nothing about an online Sweepstake International program. Although they don't want any personal information.

What do you think? Anyone else received one?

Mandy

IT IS A SCAM
i know that this is a scam as my brother-in-law got one about 6 months ago
it is the same as above saying you have won in the free draw (£850,000)
he rang up to claim and they were very good they didnt ask for money
they kept him on tender hooks for about 10 days saying they were verifing his ticket
then at the last second they asked for £560 to cover administration costs
he then reported it to the police
it seems the some one who works for the national lottery was selling information (they even had the email address of the top bloke who is incharge)
he DID think he had won as the infomation they had was only ment to be know by him & the national lottery (becouse he did play the lottery on-line and he checked through his placed bet and the serial number matched)even i thought he had won
so if any one else gets a email like that dont ring the number they give ---you ring the national lottery number and ask there to be put through to the name on the letter

I would have thought that the obvious thing to have done would be to check your numbers against the winning numbers announced?

Re: UK Lotto email SCAM ??

Yup, scam. Biggest giveaway is that the reply address is a free email address (yahoo.co.uk) - no genuine lottery company would use a freebie email address.

Millions of junk emails just like this get blasted out daily. I frequently get them, and get contacted by other people who have received them asking if they are real. And sadly, occasionally by people who have been caught out. It only takes 1 victim out of millions of emails to make a good living for the scumbags who blast this stuff out. Nobody seems able to stop them.
